Statodellarte Unione Arte Imprese

The futureis not endured. It is built.

Unione Arte Imprese is the space where enterprises choose to make a vision real. As co-authors of a long-term vision.

01 Why now

You have done the right thing. It is not enough.

Structured sustainability functions, environmental impacts and social commitments, strengthened governance, integrated metrics, standards met, compliance secured. The work has been done. Yet questions remain that no dashboard measures:

  • Are you seen as builders of the future?
  • Does your narrative lead, or follow?
  • Are you part of the conversation that matters?
  • Are you leaving a mark on your time?

The invisible risk

A company can be economically sound and culturally marginal. Cultural irrelevance produces no scandal: it produces silence.

And over the medium term, silence erodes trust as much as a crisis, or more. Silence is absence. Erosion of trust, loss of attractiveness, strategic marginalisation.

Four worlds that do not speak to each other

Inside the company, management delivers results, communications builds narrative, metrics measure results, culture runs dedicated initiatives.

Four separate languages produce discontinuity, perceived incoherence and value dispersed.

02 What UAI is

UAI is a choice of posture for the company within the society it lives in.

UAI is not
UAI is
A visibility package
A strategic stance
A commercial membership
Co-authorship of a process with social impact
A cultural sponsorship
An investment in making creativity pervasive across the company
Image returns proportional to spend
Active belonging to a community of socially responsible initiatives
A circuit of ESG badges
The values enabler of a path that evolves over time
A service to be bought
The identity choice to be an actor in building the future

The financial contribution is a condition, not a driver. Every cultural infrastructure has a cost: of thought, coordination, production and continuity. The economic dimension is not what drives the project: it is what makes it sustainable.

03 What changes for your company

Six dimensions of systemic advantage

Systemic positioning

Standing inside the transformation rather than chasing it. A strategic advantage that anticipates the market.

Reputational protection

Cultural silence erodes trust as much as a crisis does. Being relevant protects value over time.

Organisational coherence

Realigning management, ESG criteria, communications and culture under a single horizon of meaning.

Attractiveness

Talent, investors and stakeholders look for companies with vision. Culture is a powerful magnet.

Narrative credibility

A coherent story that precedes and guides the metrics instead of trailing behind them.

Generational legacy

The mark you leave on your territory, on the debate, on the generations to come.

Two postures, two destinies

Compliance

Responds to existing rules

Protects the present

Adapts to the given frame

Follows the conversation

Chases the future

Cultural leadership

Takes part in writing the rules

Shapes tomorrow

Builds the cultural frame

Leads the conversation

Builds the future

04 How to take part

One method, adaptable paths

The enterprises that approach UAI differ in size, sector, managerial culture, process maturity and objectives. It would be unrealistic to guide them all along an identical path, and ineffective to build a different one for each. UAI therefore adopts a simple principle: the method stays the same, while the paths adapt progressively to the characteristics of each organisation. What is tailored is not the method, but the way it is applied.

Two forms of membership

Promoting Enterprises

Position
Founders of UAI. They sit at the Table of Promoters with Michelangelo Pistoletto and the Foundation team, and shape the direction of the Union by consensus.
Contribution
An initial contribution for the projects approved, covering the definition phase. Any further contribution is set once the project budget is approved.
Role in projects
They propose and fund the projects launched by the Table.
Presence
Two annual sessions of the Table, in places of cultural and entrepreneurial significance.
Recognition
A public role and an identity as co-authors of the Union.

Promoting Enterprises automatically also hold the role of Adhering Enterprises, with the rights that come with it.

Adhering Enterprises

Position
They join drawn by the project and by the presence of the Promoting Enterprises. They take part in projects and activities under standard terms.
Contribution
An annual membership contribution, plus any contribution to the projects they choose.
Role in projects
They propose and fund the projects they choose to join.
Presence
UAI events and chosen projects.
Recognition
Access to the Cittadellarte network and to UAI programmes.

The two forms are not a hierarchy, nor different levels of worth. They are different ways of contributing to the growth of the ecosystem. The choice is made together, after the initial phase of mutual exploration, once the desired level of involvement and the competences the company wishes to bring are clear.

Three enterprise profiles

Small enterprises

Agile, concrete engagement: catalogue activities brought inside the organisation, with a proportionate commitment. This is the typical route for Adhering Enterprises.

Large enterprises and entrepreneurs

The co-author's engagement: the company joins as a Promoting Enterprise, sits at the Table alongside Michelangelo Pistoletto and takes part in the systemic projects.

Multiplier partners

Service firms that adopt UAI's instruments for themselves and spread them among their own clients, acting as facilitators of the programmes. They pay UAI a licence fee for the use of the methodologies and the brand, within a certification and quality control system overseen by the Union.

What it takes inside the company

Membership does not stay outside the company, it enters its processes. It requires an internal contact person, ideally whoever leads Sustainability or ESG, as the point of contact with the UAI Enterprise Office. Each active project has a monthly working meeting. Activities are designed to fit within the ESG strategy: demopratic and social art programmes produce outputs that can be documented in the sustainability report, particularly under the social component of the indicators.

05 The systemic project

One systemic project a year

Each year the Table of Promoters identifies and approves the Systemic Project for that year: an initiative shared by all the enterprises at the Table, chosen for its social relevance and for its capacity to produce effects beyond the boundaries of the single company.

For the first year it is Preventive Peace.

Preventive Peace

It starts from the understanding that peace is not merely the absence of war, nor a goal entrusted to political institutions alone. It is built day by day through behaviours, relationships, organisational models and economic choices able to prevent the conditions that generate conflict, exclusion and the loss of trust.

The project takes prevention as its operating principle: recognising tensions early, understanding social and organisational fragilities, creating spaces for listening, turning differences into a resource.

Companies are not only places of production but communities where people, generations and cultures meet every day: through labour policies, supply chain relations, investment choices and their bond with local territories, they can become places where conflict is prevented and trust is built.

Art is a distinctive instrument of the project, not as decoration but as a device able to make latent conflicts visible and to create spaces where people recognise themselves as part of the same community.

How a systemic project works

1. Launch

The Table of Promoters approves the launch. UAI appoints a permanent Project Coordinator from the Enterprise Office. Promoting Enterprises pay the initial contribution that funds the definition phase.

Output Operating plan, scope, full budget, project governance.

2. Implementation

Once objectives and budget are set, each company freely decides how to take part. The project moves into execution with monthly progress reviews.

Output Measurable results and outputs that companies can document in their sustainability reports.

Choosing not to fund the implementation phase does not change a company's standing within UAI.

06 Programmes and activities

What can actually be done

Self-portrait of the Enterprise

A guided path to re-read the company's identity, values, mission and impacts in the light of the principles of the Statodellarte. In its evolution it also becomes work on the company's core of values and on the mirror of artificial intelligence.

Demopratic Works

Forums and workshops: spaces for dialogue and co-creation among the people of the company, and between the company and its local community.

Social Art Projects

Initiatives that bring art inside and outside the company: artist adoption, residencies, participatory workshops, site-specific works.

Laboratories

For adults, children and employees' families, up to permanent laboratories for children on company premises.

Initiatives of the Statodellarte

Direct involvement in the initiatives of the Statodellarte and in the permanent programmes of Cittadellarte, with official recognition of the company's participation.

Transparent reporting

Instruments to account for progress and results, linked to sustainability and social responsibility indicators.

07 About us

An initiative of Fondazione Pistoletto Cittadellarte ETS

UAI operates within the Statodellarte, the civic and cultural project set out by the Constitution of the Statodellarte. The Foundation was born in a nineteenth-century factory in Biella: a place where material production and culture met and shaped Italian modernity.

How it is organised

Chamber of the Statodellarte

The representative body of the Statodellarte. It receives, considers and discusses UAI projects of strategic significance.

Table of Promoters

The decision-making heart of the Union. It decides autonomously which projects to generate and launch. It brings the Promoters together with Michelangelo Pistoletto and the Foundation team, deciding by consensus in two annual sessions held in person.

Promoting and Adhering Enterprises

They propose, fund and implement the projects of the Union.

UAI has decision-making autonomy over its own projects: it generates them, decides when to launch them and sets their timing and resources. Ordinary projects are presented to the Chamber of the Statodellarte for information; strategic projects are presented and discussed there.

The picture is completed by the Assembly, which defines strategies and programmes and meets annually, the UAI President supported by a Deputy President, and the UAI Representatives in the Chamber of the Statodellarte, two plus two alternates, with a two-year mandate and gender parity.

The UAI Enterprise Office

A permanent operational structure based at Cittadellarte in Biella. It looks after the day-to-day working of the bodies, the management of projects and the continuing relationship with companies. It works as a control room: it does not direct individual initiatives, it ensures their coherence, quality and continuity over time. It is organised as follows:

  • Head of Operations of the UAI Enterprise OfficeOversees the Office and the projects, and maintains the ongoing link between companies and the Foundation.
  • Head of Artistic Activities with EnterprisesOversees the artistic dimension of the initiatives with companies, working in constant coordination with the Enterprise Office.
  • UAI Project CoordinatorA permanent role within the Office. Runs projects operationally, coordinates company contacts and produces regular updates.

08 The trajectory

Four steps, one trajectory

01

Michelangelo Pistoletto

Artist, founder, visionary. With the Mirror Paintings he calls on the viewer to take an active role within the work. He creates the concept of the Third Paradise, the balance between nature and human artifice as the horizon of meaning for the twenty-first century.

02

Cittadellarte

Fondazione Pistoletto, Biella, 1998. A laboratory and a manifesto: art as an enzyme of social transformation. An international point of reference where creativity and responsibility meet.

03

Statodellarte

The cultural infrastructure. It defines the framework of values, the strategic frame and the evolving trajectory of the relationship between art, enterprise and society. The Board of Guarantors brings together Gustavo Zagrebelsky, Giuliana Setari, Emanuele Montibeller, Gunter Pauli, Niccolò Abriani and Enrico Giovannini.

04

UAI

Unione Arte Imprese. The operational space where enterprises choose to make that vision real. Not as clients. As co-authors.

The mirror

Just as Pistoletto's Mirror Paintings reflect the viewer inside the work and turn them into a protagonist, the Statodellarte places enterprises back at the centre of the construction of meaning. Not a passive mirror of the market, but a space where economic production and the production of meaning coincide.
